A four-year scholarship towards a bachelor's degree at Berklee College of Music and 43 additional scholarships are available to music students in need

MIAMI (JAN. 18, 2022) — The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation® is accepting applications for its 2022 scholarships beginning today. This includes their prestigious $200,000 Prodigy Scholarship co-sponsored, this year, by Sofia Carson, Global Ambassador for the Foundation, toward a bachelor's degree at Berklee College of Music. In addition, three Gifted Tuition, and 40 Tuition Assistance Scholarships will be awarded to music students admitted to universities of their choice. All scholarships are awarded to exceptionally talented music students, with financial need, to support their educational and musical aspirations. The Foundation is committed to investing in future Latin music creators from around the globe.

The four-year namesake Prodigy Scholarship, this year the Sofia Carson Scholarship, was created seven years ago and has been co-sponsored by Latin stars including Enrique Iglesias (2015), Juan Luis Guerra (2016), Miguel Bosé (2017), Carlos Vives (2018), Emilio and Gloria Estefan (2019), Julio Iglesias (2020) and Juanes (2021). This year’s scholarship will fulfill one exemplary student's dream of completing a bachelor's degree, in music at Berklee College of Music, starting in the 2022 fall semester.

The Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation remains committed to help support closing the gender gap in the music industry.  In the 2020-21 season, the four most valuable scholarships were awarded to women, which represents 64% ($531,000) of the total scholarship amount awarded. Launching this year’s Prodigy Scholarship in partnership with Sofia Carson provides invaluable economic support and mentoring to an aspiring musician. Both Sofia and the Foundation are hopeful that Sofia’s co-sponsorship will serve as inspiration to young women wishing to pursue a professional career in music.

In 2019, songstress and actor, Sofia Carson, became the Global Ambassador for the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, advocating, promoting, and increasing awareness of the Foundation’s mission and educational programs. As part of her efforts, she has participated in countless events to help raise funds and promote the primary charitable focus of providing scholarships to students interested in Latin music as well as grants to scholars, and organizations, worldwide, to research and preserve diverse Latin music genres, and music education programs.

“As Global Ambassador of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation, it has been my privilege to witness, and contribute, towards realizing this transformational and life-changing mission. This year the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation will distribute a maximum of $900,000 among 44 talented music students between the ages of 17 and 25 with financial constraints, as follows:

  • One Sofia Carson Scholarship awarded to one student for up to $200,000 to earn a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, starting in fall 2022

  • Three four-year Gifted Tuition Scholarships of up to $100,000 each will be awarded for students to earn a bachelor's degree in music starting in fall 2022 at the university of their choice.

  • Forty Tuition Assistance Scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to students pursuing a bachelor's degree in music. This is a one-time award that will cover tuition costs over one year: the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters.

Each year, the Foundation's Scholarship Committee carefully evaluates applications from a highly competitive pool of aspiring musicians on a variety of skillsrigorous requirements that are both academic and artistic in nature. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $6.5 million in scholarships, grants, musical instrument donations and educational programming, and events, worldwide.

Starting today, Tuesday, January 18, 2022 the application will go live at: www.latingrammyculturalfoundation.com. As part of the process, students must complete an online application, submit two audition videos, two letters of recommendation, and an acceptance letter from an accredited university along with two completed essays. The materials can be submitted in English, Spanish or Portuguese.  The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. EDT on April 10, 2022.

MIAMI (NOVEMBER 14, 2024) — Last night, The Latin Recording Academy® celebrated its 2024 Person of the Year Gala honoring Carlos Vives, with moving renditions of some of Vives’ renowned repertoire, featuring past and current Latin GRAMMY® nominees including Edgar Barrera, María Becerra, David Bisbal, Rubén Blades, Martina Camargo, Camilo, Pedro Capó, Silvestre Dangond, Emilia, Emilio Estefan, Gloria Estefan, Fonseca, Luis Fonsi, Kany García, Vicente García, Gente De Zona, Goyo, Grupo Frontera, Juan Luis Guerra, Juanes, Carín León, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Víctor Martínez, Niña Pastori, Antonio Rey, Arturo Sandoval, Alejandro Sanz, Tato, Tonada, Julieta Venegas, Wisin and Sebastián Yatra.

Vives, a Latin GRAMMY and GRAMMY® winner, was honored for his more than three-decade career as a multifaceted singer and composer, as well as for his continued commitment to environmental and social initiatives.

The star-studded gala and tribute concert — which marked the 25th anniversary of the recognition — was held at the
Miami Beach Convention Center, where six previous Person of the Year honorees kicked off the festivities with exhilarating opening numbers: Rubén Blades (2021) and Juan Luis Guerra (2007) performed “Dejame Entrar”; Gloria Estefan (2008) sang “Mil Canciones,” accompanied by Emilio Estefan (2000) on the conga; Alejandro Sanz (2017) performed “Un Pobre Loco,” accompanied by Arturo Sandoval on the trumpet; and Juanes (2019) performed a version of “La Gota Fría”.

The evening’s other eagerly awaited musical performances also featured an international group of artists across a variety of genres, creating unexpected musical moments that aligned with Vives’ style, which often fuses styles but always maintains a focus on musical roots and authenticity. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs performed “Carito”; Julieta Venegas and María Becerra sang a folk version of “Cumbiana,” with Venegas on the accordion; Carín León, Grupo Frontera and Edgar Barrera performed “Volví A Nacer”; Wisin, Emilia and Goyo showcased an urban medley of “Tu Amor Eterno,” followed by Wisin and Luis Fonsi with a version of “Bailar Contigo”; Niña Pastori and guitarists Antonio Rey and Víctor Martínez performed a flamenco rendition of “La Cumbia De Todos,” accompanied by the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music students; Pedro Capó and Vicente García performed a reggae/blues version of “Santa Marta-Kingston-New Orleans”; Kany García performed “Voy A Olvidarme De Mí”; Martina Camargo, Tonada and Tato performed “Rosa”; David Bisbal and Gente De Zona performed “Fruta Fresca”; and Vives closed the show with his songs “Pa’ Mayte” and “La Tierra Del Olvido,” followed by a medley of “Quiero Verte Sonreir,” “El Amor De Mi Tierra,” “Amor Sensible,” “El Cantor De Fonseca,” and “La Cañaguatera,” along with Camilo, Silvestre Dangond, Fonseca and Sebastián Yatra.

The highly-anticipated gala preceded the 25th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards®, which will air live from the Kaseya Center in Miami on November 14 via Univision, UniMás, Galavisión and ViX beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).

Latin Academy Senior Vice President of Production Ayleen Figueras and Macarena Moreno served as executive producers of the gala, with Latin GRAMMY-nominees Janina Rosado as Musical Director, and Daniel Flores as Musical Supervisor.

As a first ever multi-year sponsorship for The Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year Gala, Live Nation served as co-presenting sponsor with the Gary Nader Art Centre.

MIAMI (NOVEMBER 12, 2024) — The Latin Recording Academy®, in partnership with Mastercard and Bank of America, presents the 2024 Best New Artist Showcase, an initiative that provides exposure for the new generation of music creators during the prestigious Latin GRAMMY® Week.

“Since our first Latin GRAMMYs 25 years ago, we have been championing the next generation of Latin music makers through our Best New Artist category,” said Manuel Abud, CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. “We are proud to continue opening doors as we celebrate this year’s nominees by spotlighting them during the Best New Artist Showcase.”

The private event took place on Tuesday, November 12, at the Faena Forum in Miami, and was hosted by Latin GRAMMY® winner and GRAMMY® nominee Catalina García of Monsieur Periné, who also performed “Catalina,” nominated for Record of the Year. The evening featured performances from Best New Artist nominees for the 25th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards®: Agris, Kevin Aguilar, DARUMAS, Nicolle Horbath, Cacá Magalhães, Os Garotin, Íñigo Quintero, Sofi Saar and Ela Taubert.

Latin GRAMMY winner Tiago Iorc and previous Latin GRAMMY winners in the Best New Artist category Joaquina, Juliana, Kany García, Manuel Medrano and Nella, as well as previous nominees in the category Mau y Ricky and Nicole Zignago, also joined the showcase as presenters.

The Best New Artist Showcase kicked off in 2022 during Latin GRAMMY Week in Las Vegas. Over the last two years, the initiative has hosted showcases in several cities around the world, in collaboration with Mastercard, including Buenos Aires, Mexico City, San Juan, São Paulo and Seville. This year, Espolòn® Tequila, Rums of Puerto Rico and SoundExchange joined the celebration as Official Sponsors.

The Best New Artist Showcase was produced by The Latin Academy’s production team led by Ayleen Figueras with Rafael González Lasso and Ana Daza as executive producers.

Musical production was led by Eduardo Bergallo, member of the Board of Trustees of The Latin Recording Academy. Additionally, production of the performances was supported by the Circle of Producers and Engineers (CPI) from The Latin Academy, with a house band comprised of Latin GRAMMY nominated musicians.

MIAMI (NOVEMBER 12, 2024) — The Latin Recording Academy® announced additional special artist participations for the 25th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards®, which includes current nominees Pepe Aguilar, Chiquis, Goyo, Mon Laferte, Nathy Peluso and Rauw Alejandro, as well as previous Latin GRAMMY® nominees Alejandro Sanz, Gloria Estefan, Juanes and Julieta Venegas.In addition, Marc Anthony serves as executive producer of a special salsa segment under the musical direction of Sergio George.

GRAMMY® winner Andy García and Latin GRAMMY nominee Roselyn Sánchez also return to showcase iconic moments from the last 25 years of the Latin GRAMMYs and celebrate this milestone with The Latin Recording Academy. 

Pepe Aguilar is nominated for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album, and Chiquis received a nomination for Best Banda Album. Goyo earned a nod for Best Alternative Song, while Mon Laferte received three nominations including Record Of The Year and Album Of The Year. Marc Anthony has two nods for Best Salsa Album and Best Short Form Music Video, and Nathy Peluso is nominated in three categories including Best Rap/Hip Hop Song and Best Long Form Music Video. Rauw Alejandro received a nomination for Best Reggaeton Performance.
