MIAMI (NOV. 17, 2022) — Last night, The Latin Recording Academy® celebrated its 2022 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year™ Gala honoring Marco Antonio Solís, with moving renditions of some of Solís’ renowned repertoire by the following artists: Bronco, Camila, Elsa y Elmar, Gente De Zona, Jesse & Joy, Los Bukis, Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández, Carla Morrison, Edén Muñoz, Christian Nodal, Fito Páez, Laura Pausini, Romeo Santos, Sin Bandera, Marla Solís, Taboo from Black Eyed Peas, Ana Torroja, and Sebastián Yatra.
Five-time Latin GRAMMY® -winner and six-time GRAMMY®-nominee Marco Antonio Solís was honored for his more than four-decade career as a composer, arranger, producer, musician, artistic director and multifaceted performer, as well as one of Mexico’s most successful artists of all time.
The sold-out, star-studded gala and tribute concert, held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, featured a diverse range of artists and genres. Solís surprised attendees by opening the show with a medley of his greatest hits, including “¿A Dónde Vamos A Parar?,” “La Venia Bendita” and “Tu Cárcel”, alongside Los Bukis.
The set design was the largest live event production to date by The Latin Academy, and included a 180-degree, multi-stage setup that revealed multiple bands and allowed guests to feel closer to the performances. The highly-anticipated gala preceded the 23rd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards®, airing live on Univision on Nov. 17, at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. Central).
Live Nation was the first-time presenting sponsor, in honor of their long-time client Solís. They promoted Solís’ and Los Bukis’ most recent tours around the U.S., Europe and Latin America, as part of their ongoing efforts to bring Latin music to stages all over the world.
Latin Academy Senior Vice President of Production Ayleen Figueras served as the executive producer of the prestigious gala, alongside Macarena Moreno as executive producer. The extraordinary music heard last night was thanks to the Musical Director for the evening, Latin GRAMMY winner and GRAMMY nominee David Cabrera. Greg Fera once again served as the event producer, and Latin GRAMMY and GRAMMY winner Gustavo Borner was in charge of the sound for the night. The talent coordination was under the management of Moon Moosic, Inc.
Net proceeds from the 2022 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Gala will go toward the charitable work of the Latin GRAMMY Cultural Foundation®, whose mission is to further international awareness and appreciation of the significant contributions of Latin music and its makers to the world's culture. The Foundation provides college scholarships, educational programs and grants for the research and preservation of its rich musical legacy and heritage, and to date has donated more than $7.6 million with the support of Latin Recording Academy members, artists, corporate sponsors and other generous donors.
